Behind the Canvas

Welcome to the Artist Interviews – where we dive into the hearts and minds behind the artwork. This is where you’ll meet the talented artists and uncover the stories, sparks of inspiration, and curious habits that shape their creative worlds.

We ask the big questions:
What drives their passion?
Where do their ideas come from?
What challenges have they faced along the way?

And of course…
Have they ever accidentally drank their own paint water?

These interviews are more than just conversations – they’re windows into the soul of the art. Whether it’s a quiet moment of inspiration or a chaotic studio covered in colour, every artist has a story worth telling.

So grab a cuppa (not the paint water!) and come get to know the brilliant minds behind the brush.

Meet Monisha

Monisha Thirumoorthy is a gifted artist based in Teesside, her portrait work captures not just likeness but the quiet personality of her sitters. Her richly layered pieces draw on a fascinating blend of classical technique and contemporary emotion—bringing out the subtle interplay of light and expression. Like me, she’s confessed to the odd quirky artist moment: she once took a sip of her own paint water in the studio by accident! These are the delightful little reminders that creativity isn’t always neat and tidy—it’s messy, colourful, and thoroughly human.

Introduction - online art exhibition 2025

Meet Ajay

I first met Andrea Wood or Ajay as she is best known as in the art world, whilst attending an art seminar at art gallery in Redcar a few months ago. As often happens in creative circles, we struck up a conversation and quickly found common ground in our artistic practices.

Meet Christine

Meet Christine Eltherington - an abstract artist and the heart behind Proclaiming Art. For me, this is more than just a gallery—it’s a living conversation between spirit, emotion, and imagination. Through bold brushstrokes, layered symbolism, and intentional mark-making, I create work that invites you to feel deeply, reflect inwardly, and discover beauty that goes beyond what’s seen.

Meet Stanislava

I’m so excited to introduce you to Stanislava—an incredibly gifted, London-based mixed media artist with a passion for transforming everyday materials into expressive works of art.

Meet Jo

I’m delighted to introduce you to the talented Jo Littlejohn, a botanical artist whose work beautifully captures the delicate essence of nature.  I met Jo nearly a year ago, and our conversation naturally turned to art—something that often happens—and I soon discovered that Jo is an artist, too. From that moment, the rest, as they say, is history!
