Introductions - Proclaiming Art Online Art Exhibition 2025
I first met Andrea Wood or Ajay as she is best known as in the art world, whilst attending an art seminar at art gallery in Redcar a few months ago. As often happens in creative circles, we struck up a conversation and quickly found common ground in our artistic practices. After swapping socials, I was delighted to invite Ajay to take part in the Proclaiming Art Autumn Online Exhibition.
Ajay's work is a dynamic fusion of photography, sculpture, and installation. She embraces unconventional materials, processes, and techniques to push boundaries and provoke thought. At the core of her practice is a deep concern for the environment. Through her art, Ajay addresses and raises awareness of the escalating environmental crisis, prompting viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the natural world.
Her conceptual approach is grounded in research and informed by current environmental discourse. Whether repurposing discarded materials or experimenting with ephemeral forms, Ajay brings attention to the urgent need for sustainable change.
I’m genuinely looking forward to showcasing Ajay's thought-provoking work and sharing her powerful message with a wider audience through this season’s exhibition.

Echoes of the Tides: A lost connection
The collection of ‘Echoes of the Tides depicts the harsh reality of the transformation of a once serene beach, reflecting both nature's beauty and human impact. The artist contrasts vibrant treasures— shells, seaweed, pebbles and Sea glass—with the harsh presence of plastic debris, symbolising a lost connection to the natural world. Muted colours evoke nostalgia, highlighting the emotional turmoil of the observer. "Ebbing sorrow” invites viewers to reflect on the fragility of cherished landscapes and the bittersweet sorrow of change.

Carbon footprint
The artwork titled ‘Carbon Footprint’ is an intricate canvas of sand that celebrates nature's imperfections. Each grain reflects the beauty of a once-pristine beach now marked by human presence, evoking a sense of loss and yearning for an untouched shoreline. This piece comments on our relationship with the planet and offers a glimpse into a future where only our impact remains.
