The Art of Andrea Wood
Publish
There’s something deeply moving about watching someone breathe new life into what others have cast aside. That’s exactly what Andrea Wood does—she creates from the discarded and the abandoned. Where many see rubbish, Andrea sees potential. She sees beauty. She sees truth.
I first met Andrea at an art seminar at Redcar Art Gallery, and from our very first conversation, I knew her work had a quiet power. She spoke passionately about her practice—how she collects overlooked, broken, or unwanted materials and transforms them into installations that challenge how we see the world around us. It’s not just about recycling materials; it’s about reshaping perception.
Andrea’s art has a way of slipping truth in through the back door. You encounter the piece, drawn in by its form, its texture, or its unexpected beauty. You pause, curious. And then, slowly, the message behind the work begins to unfold—about waste, about the environment, about the urgent need for change. By the time reality hits, the truth has already found a place within you.
There’s something incredibly honest about that process. Andrea doesn’t preach; she invites. She invites us to look again, to think again, and to imagine a world where we tread more lightly and see more clearly.
It’s a real privilege to have Andrea as part of the upcoming Proclaiming Art Autumn Online Exhibition. Her work reminds us that art can stir us, change us, and gently wake us up to what truly matters.
